Catherine A. Canel, 73 of Chester passed away at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, following a lengthy illness. Born in Pittsburgh on May 15, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Alquin Mitchell and Loretta Brady Eller. A lover of all animals, Catherine spent her life as thoroughbred horse owner and trainer.

She had raced at several tracks along the east coast, and she graduated from North Allegheny High School in Pittsburgh. Her loving family includes her sons, Link Owen and his wife Chrishna of Weirton, and William Owen of Chester; her brother, Ronald Eller and his wife Dorie of Raymond, MS; her sister, Sarah Mitchell of Hadley, PA; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. A memorial service to celebrate Catherine’s life will be held at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Tuesday, October 9, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Tom Schneidmiller officiating.

Interment will follow at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell.
