Obituary for Catherine Fountas (Halachis) Catherine Fountas, of Fort Lauderdale, went home to be with the Lord and those who have gone before her when she passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at the Cleveland Clinic in Weston. At the time of her passing, she was in the hearts of those she loved the most. Born on January 22, 1921 in Boston, MA, Catherine was the daughter of the late Apostolos and Irene (Drossos) Halachis.
Raised and educated in Boston, Catherine was united in marriage to Peter Charles Fountas on June 17, 1945. Together the couple shared a loving marriage, sharing their values and faith with their large family. Peter passed away on June 7, 1984.
Catherine was a parishioner of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and was devoted to her Greek heritage and faith. She was a member of the Ladies Philoptohos, Daughters of Penelope, Agape and Papps Societies. A spiritual person, Catherine loved to attend church and participate in social groups for worthy causes.
An avid reader, she always wanted to have the latest book to read and a plan for the next one. Devoted to her family and friends, she looked forward to her special times with them. A friendly and warm person, she had few wasted words, but instead much wisdom and unusual wit, always sharing a kind word about others and her straightforward common sense.
She loved traveling and looked forward to time in her favorite spot in Chatham, Cape Cod. Catherine is survived by her children, Charles Peter Fountas, Irene Fountas, Nicoletta Fountas, Linda Fountas and Paul Peter Fountas. She held close to her heart the memory of her son John Peter Fountas, who passed away in 2015.
Also surviving is her granddaughter, Natalie Fountas-Davis and Devin Eicher; her great granddaughter, Penelope Eicher; her sister, Betty Philopoulos; her sister-in-law, Catherine Halachis; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; her dear friends, Garnet Johnson, Norma Edwards, Janet Jeffrey and Gay Su Pinnell. She was predeceased by her siblings, John Halachis , Thelma Bousquet and Michael. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Catherine Fountas’s memory to Dr. Wen’s Glioblastoma Research Fund Dana Farber Cancer Institute P.0.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 4:00 – 7:00 at the Kraeer-Fairchild Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 4061 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale. Catherine’s funeral service will commence on Friday morning at 11:00 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. There will be an additional visitaiton for Catherine on Monday, January 28, 2019, from 4:00PM – 8:00PM at the Faggas Funeral Home, 551 Mt.
Auburn Street, Watertown, MA. Committal prayers will commence on Tuesday morning at 10:00 in the Knollwood Memorial Park Chapel, 321 High Street, Canton, MA 02021, followed by interment. Relaitves and friends are kindly invited to attend.
