Chad Nissen of White Bear Township, MN, formerly of West Fargo, ND, left this world on July 3, 2018. He will be remembered for his quiet nature, love of fishing with his friends and family, and peaceful joy in the outdoors. Chadwick Alan Nissen was born on June 6, 1970.

He spent his early years in New Rockford, ND, and moved to West Fargo in 1980. He was naturally athletic in every sport he tried, and he made friends with a core group who remained close to Chad his entire life. He took every opportunity to camp, hunt and fish while listening to heavy metal music, determining which songs the fish would bite to.

He graduated from West Fargo High School in 1988, and worked his way through North Dakota State University at Valentino’s Restaurant. He received an electrical engineering degree in 1998. Chad then moved to the Twin Cities.

He worked as an electrical engineer for Ulteig Engineers for 15 years and Xcel Energy for the past five years. He married Tricia Velure of Kathryn, ND, in 2001. In his free time, Chad’s greatest passion was fishing – from his boat or on the ice, day or night, regardless of weather conditions.

He was all about fishing – not drinking, taking a lunch break, or quitting early if the fish weren’t biting. He also loved hockey, softball and travel. In his last three months of life, Chad was in Europe twice.

He loved exploring castles, scuba diving in the Caribbean, visiting Civil War sites in the South, and – most of all – helping kids learn to love fishing. Chad’s loving family includes parents Cindy and Randy Gummeringer; sister Carrie (Nate) Miller; brother Tim (Faith) Nissen; wife Tricia; nephews Taggert, Cole and Jonathon; and nieces Meadow and Presleigh. Memorial contributions may be made to Ducks Unlimited.

“The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope”.
