Charles B. Howell, Jr., age 99, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, passed away on January 8, 2019. Charles was born on a farm in Marion County Florida, August 8, 1919 to Charles and Ida Howell.

He spent most of his youth in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Charles enrolled at the University of Florida in 1938.

He left UF in February of 1942, shortly after the USA became involved in WWII, to join the Army Air Corps. In the Army Air Corps he was trained to be a B-17 Navigator. Charles taught navigation before going overseas.

His plane was shot down over the North Sea and he spent 16 months as a POW in Germany. After serving four years in the Army Air Corps, he returned to the University of Florida. Charles graduated with an undergraduate degree in Business Administration.

He then entered graduate school. In February of 1948, he received one of the first two MBA degrees awarded at the University of Florida. Charles taught in the Business Administration Departments at Florida State University, The University of Miami, Broward County Community College (now Broward College) for a total of 43 years.

Charles also owned an Insurance and Real Estate business in Fort Lauderdale. He was married for 61 years to Sara Alice Brown. Charles was an avid GATOR fan since attending UF.

His two children, Terry and Cindy graduated from UF in addition to his son-in-law, John and three of his grandchildren: Michael, John Charles, and Amanda (who was a mascot “Alberta” for UF. ) He leaves behind his daughters, Terry Pelick and her husband John, Cindy Tollon and her husband, David; his grandchildren, Taylor Pelick Khan and her husband and 2 children, John Charles Pelick and his wife and 3 children, Michael Howell Tollon and his wife and 3 children, Amanda Tollon Forsman and her husband and 2 children. Charles was devoted to his family.

A graveside service will be held in Anthony, Florida in the near future. Arrangements by Bill Head Funeral Homes and Crematory, Lilburn/Tucker Chapel, (770) 564-2726.
