Charles Edward Clouse, “Charlie”, 74, died unexpectedly but quickly and mercifully on July 3, 2018, the way he always said he wanted to leave this earth. He was born on September 16, 1943 to the late Birdell and Charlie Clouse. He leaves behind his wife, Patsy, who was his constant companion and the light of his life for 37 years.

He treated her as if she were a princess. The picture above was taken on their first date. He is also survived by his step-daughter, Tonya, and 6 grandchildren.

He had three sisters, Diane, who died tragically at age 16, Sandra Heist and Carolyn Bledsoe. He was raised in Franklin, NC and began his career as a pressman at Franklin Press and continued at Smith Printing Co. after moving to Asheville in 1960. He realized his goal of being self employed and operated his own auto body and frame repair shop on Cowan Cove Road for many years.

He was a man of unlimited talents, building his own race car from the ground up which he raced in the Sportsman Division at New Asheville Speedway. He built his own houseboat which was moored at Lake James for many years. He could repair anything.

He was friendly, cheerful, generous, thoughtful, humorous and drew people to him by his positive attitude and entertaining personality. He never met a stranger. He will be sadly missed by many good friends, but especially his best and closest friends Ken Kennedy and Glenda Rice.

Besides his family, he loved camping, skiing, fishing with his beloved pets, and collecting and restoring classic cars. He loved his dog, Sissy, and all animals, always having a canine sidekick by his side or close by. He loved the wildlife outside his home which he enjoyed watching and feeding.

He loved, cherished and lived every minute of life fully. No memorial services will be held in accordance with his wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, 31 Glendale Ave, Asheville, NC 28803.

Death leaves a heartache which no one can heal, but love leaves a memory no one can steal.
