Mrs. Mildred Ellinor Oiulfstad Stokes, 98, died Sunday, September 23, 2018. Born April 12, 1920 in Oslo, Norway, she was the oldest child of the late Erling Samuel Oiulfstad and Hjordis Mathilde Heggeli Oiulfstad. She was very proud to be an American, but never forgot her Norwegian heritage.

In 1941 Mildred married Kenneth Stokes, the love of her life. After the War, Mildred was a devoted New York City Police wife. In 1967, Mildred and Kenneth moved to Sarasota, Florida, where Mildred established Stokes Realty, which she operated until she was well into her eighties.

Mildred was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway, and Kiwaniis of Sarasota. Throughout her life, Mildred enjoyed spending time with friends and family members, traveling with Ken, and especially spending time at her home on Lake Toxaway since 1972. Mildred is survived by her three daughters and their families; Carolyn Stokes, Jane Donoghue (Richard), and Deb McConaghy (John).

She is also survived by four grandchildren and their families; Christine Falconer, Kent Aabye (Ashley), Robert Donoghue, and Matthew Donoghue (Kelly). Mildred is also survived by seven great-grandchildren; Ellie Falconer, Whitney Falconer, Trip Falconer, Lilly Aabye, Palmer Aabye, Liam Donoghue and Peyton Donoghue. Mildred was predeceased by her husband Kenneth and by her brother Peter.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Grethe Oiulfstad and Carolyn Christoffersen, by her brother-in-law Eugene Stokes, and by a host of special cousins, nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at Carolina Reserve for their attentive care of our mom. A memorial service to celebrate Mildred’s life will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday October 12, 2018 at Faith Lutheran Church, 7750 South Beneva Road, Sarasota, Florida.
