Charles “Charlie” Edward Hundt April 8, 1945 – June 14, 2018 Charles “Charlie” Edward Hundt passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 14, 2018 in his home. Charlie requested no service, but a remembrance service that will be held at his home and will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana.

He was born the fifth child of Edward and Edith (Lawrence) Hundt on April 8, 1945 in La Porte, Indiana. He is survived by his wife Judy, son Robert (Deborah) and dear grandchildren Jacob, Emily and Maggie Hundt all of Michigan City, Indiana, sister-in-law Carol (Alfred) Radke, sister Evelyn Gee, special nephew Joe Hutton along with many other nieces and nephews and his beloved black lab Marley. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Janet (Roger) Hutton, Patricia (James) Czerwonke, infant brother Arden Lynn Hundt along with his special angel daughter Kimberly Hundt in 2008.

Charlie graduated from South Central High School in 1964. In 1965 he met the love of his life Judy (Sommerfeld) and married one week after her graduation from nursing school in 1968. They would have been married 50 years on June 29th of this year.

They were blessed with two children and unable to have more of their own became foster parents to over 10 children. Their home was always full of children and much love. He sponsored the first Coolspring Township little league baseball team and coached them for many years.

His son’s boy scout troop had many campouts and parties at his home. He was active in 4-H and passed this love on to his children and grandchildren. He loved animals and had every animal and fowl always at the home.

Charlie was an avid deer hunter and fisherman and loved telling stories of his accomplishments…. this love is now carried on by his son and grandchildren. His property in Coolspring Township allowed him to see his family know the pride of hunting and processing their own hunts.

Charlie was a proud union sheet metal worker and owned C & H Sheet Metal for many years. He taught his son the skills of construction and together they remodeled their entire home. He took pride in his work and loved sharing his skills to anyone who wanted to learn.

He enjoyed his friends coming and hanging out at his barn (Man Cave). Contributions may be made to Coolspring Twp. Fire Dept.
