Larry Martin Dombrowsky August 3, 1943 – June 13, 2018 Larry Martin Dombrowsky, 74, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 8:17 am in his home. Military services will be held at 7:00 pm, Monday, June 18, 2018 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City. Cremation will take place.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Monday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel. He was born August 3, 1943 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late John M. Dombrowsky and Marian (Sadenwater) Harper. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in January of 1961 where he was an Airborne Paratrooper.

He was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division to jump school in Fort Bragg, NC and then served 4 1/2 years in Mainz, Germany. After Germany he was assigned to Fort Benning, GA for Ranger School and volunteered for Vietnam where he served for 2 years. When in the 173rd Airborne Brigade during Vietnam, he made a combat jump in January of 1967 for which he was awarded the Bronze Star.

Larry was honorably discharged from the Army in June of 1967 as a Staff Sergeant. Larry returned home in June of 1967 and obtained a job at Midwest Steel as a crane operator where retired in March of 1992 after 25 years. On August 4, 1984 he married Carol Stec Steinhiser who survives in Michigan City, IN.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Young Men’s Society, American Legion Skwiat Post #451 and the V.F.W. #2536. Also surviving are a sister, Sharon Heckman of Indianapolis, IN; two daughters, Laurie (Andre) Smith Leon of McKinney, TX, Tammy (Marty) Mitchell of MIchigan; Two Step-sons, Alan Steinhiser of Michigan City, IN, Brian (Lisa) Steinhiser of Michigan City, IN; grandchildren, Andrew Leon of McKinney, TX, Alexander Leon of McKinney, TX, Cody Steinhiser of Michigan City, IN, Scout Steinhiser of Michigan City, IN, Wyatt Steinhiser of Michigan City, IN, Brandon (Katrina) Steinhiser of Michigan City, IN, Ashley Steinhiser of Michigan City, IN, Magon (Levi) Sechrist of Westfield, NC and Rachel Steinhiser of Rockwell, NC. He was also preceded in death by step-son, Karl Steinhiser; and step-brother, Donald Harper, Jr. Larry loved his cattle, his dog, Buffy and being with family and friends.

He is now with his buddies Larry Hoffmaster and Hobb Hunsley. Larry never met a stranger. Contributions may be made to NWI VNA Hospice, 2401 Valley Dr., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
