Charles Edgar Huston November 17, 1926 – January 19, 2019 Share this obituary Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Charles Edgar Huston, age 92 of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, January 19, 2019 at St. Marks Lutheran Home. Charles Edgar Huston was born November 17, 1926 on the family homestead near Lyle, Minnesota to Charles and Emma Huston. The fourth of five children, Charles attended the local county school and then Lyle High School until the eighth grade.

At the age of 17 he went to work for the Hormel Company. At age 19 he was drafted into the Army and served until the end of the war. He was honorably discharged December 13, 1946 and returned to work at Hormel where he remained until his retirement at the end of the strike in 1986.

On October 20, 1951Charles was united in marriage to Margaret Cafourek at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Austin Minnesota and she blessed him with three children. Charles loved fishing and hunting, especially pheasant hunting. He enjoyed his large garden and was especially proud of his rhubarb patch and his apple, plum and pear trees.

He liked to travel but never wanted to stay gone for too long as he thought he always had to get back and mow the lawn. He was an active member of the VFW and American Legion Color Guard for over 45 years. He was a good union man and enjoyed visiting old friends in rest homes in the local area.

Survivors include his son, Lynn (Bev) Huston; daughter, Sheila (Gary) Dickman; daughter, Brenda (Orin) Krause, Grandchildren David (Marlene LeBarron) Huston, Jenni (Scott) Van Benschoten, Gabe Dickman, Michael (Laura Seid) Dickman, Angela Bailey, Nathan Bailey and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, his loving wife, Margaret, and his mother and father-in-law. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Crane Community Chapel with the Reverend Dale Christiansen officiating.

Interment will be in Woodbury Cemetery. Military honors will preformed by Austin Post #91, American Legion and Olaf B. Damm Post #1216 V.F.W. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and on Thursday for one hour before the service at the church.
