Obituary for Charles J. McGee Charles J. McGee, born December 12, 1922 to Charles Everett and Anna Elizabeth Habig McGee, in Hannibal, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on August 30, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas. At age 6, he moved with his family to Denver, Colorado and graduated from Manual Training High School in 1941. Charles then attended Colorado School of Mines on a scholarship, but left college at the end of his junior year to enlist in the United States Army during WWII.

After 2 years of training, Engineer Officer Candidate School and serving as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers, he was honorably discharged and returned to Mines to complete his degree in Metullargical Engineering. He was married to Aurelia Wanda Petersen in Denver, Colorado on April 3, 1945. Charles moved his family to San Antonio in 1947 to work for 12 years at Petroleum Service & Research Corp.

, spending many weeks at a time analyzing the oil fields of South Texas and Jordan. Charles then worked for City Public Service for 27 years, initially as a chemist, and in the latter years as an Environmental Engineer. He retired in 1986.

Charles and Aurelia were charter members of Asbury United Methodist Church in San Antonio, serving the Lord there for 70 years. He was also a member of the Gideons Association for 40+ years, spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ. Charles was quiet, humble, and witty; an avid reader who could converse on any subject; unafraid of leadership opportunities; and devoted to his family and his church.

Charles understood God’s love for him and followed His example as he gave of his time and love to help others in ways we may never fully know. Charles is preceded in death by his wife Aurelia, his parents Charles and Anna, sisters Helen and Celia, and great grandchild Miquela Carpenter. He is survived by his sister Carolyn McIntosh; children Sharlia McGee , Marsha (John) Wampler, Gwen (Jack) Carpenter, Judy (Danny) Johnson, and Tim (Sue) McGee; 11 grandchildren: JJ Wampler, Bonnie Taras, Mark Wampler, Peter Carpenter, Stella Carpenter, Modesta Capenter, Robbie Carpenter, Winter Johnson, Whitney Johnson, Wimberleigh Johnson, and Ryan McGee; 14 great grandchildren: Zayden, Elliot, and Robin Wampler, Milo and Quinn Taras, Everett and Madeline Wampler, Skye and Avery Shaw, Kagome Carpenter, Nathaniel Carpenter, Mattie and Jack McGee, and Orion Mutu.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. A celebration of Charles’ life will be held the following day, Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at Mission North with a private entombment to be held at a later date.
