Charles Ray Billings Sr , December 10, 1929 — May 30, 2018

Charles Ray Billings, Sr., age 88, of Sanford, NC passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at his home. He was born in Rison, Arkansas to the late William Lee Billings and Maude Parker Billings. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Harris Billings; a daughter, Lois Gwen Billings; two brothers, Jamie Lee Billings, Parker Billings.

Mr. Billings was a 1949 graduate of Rison High School. After graduation, he served his country in the United States Army and later transferred to the Civil Service Headquarters located on Fort Bragg. He worked for Roberts Company and later, Carnes Company where he retired after 29 years of service as a shipping supervisor.

Charles was a member of Bethel Baptist Church when he lived in Rison, Arkansas. He later joined Shallow Well Church where he served as a Deacon, Trustee and many other capacities within the church. He enjoyed his membership in the Covenant Bible Class.

Charles had many outside activities which kept him very busy– especially going to the Enrichment Center, helping anyone he could – he loved people and never met a stranger. Charles is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary Joyce Taylor Billings; a daughter, Elizabeth (Lib) McBride of Sanford, NC; two sons, Charles Ray Billings, Jr and wife, Barbara of Carthage, NC and Ricky Lee Billings and wife, Judy of Sanford, NC; two brothers, Clifton Billings and wife, Mary of Rison, Arkansas and W.M. Billings and wife, Brenda of Fordyce, Arkansas; two sisters, Alene Bell of Rison, Arkansas, Mary Frances Lewis and husband, Bobby of Rison, Arkansas; six grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and several special nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Shallow Well Church.

The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor.
