Charles Webb Nickerson , August 05, 1937 — April 25, 2018

Charles Webb “Bud” Nickerson, 80, of Springville, UT, died peacefully at home from pancreatic cancer on April 25th, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was the eldest son of Charles Roy Nickerson and Bell Webb Nickerson of Ogden, Utah. Bud was an eternal optimist.

With his positive disposition, he leveraged every opportunity to his fullest expectation. He was a very talented, curious and industrious individual who pursued many interests spanning oil painting, wood-carving and carpentry. He cultivated his hobbies to high levels of skill.

As a teen, he amazed family and schoolmates with hypnosis. A natural leader, Bud was elected Associated Men’s Student President while attending Weber State College prior to serving a two-year mission in Sydney, Australia, for the LDS Church. An adventurer, he and three missionary buddies traveled the world for six months after their release from service as he made his way home to Ogden, Utah.

It was there Bud’s sister, Sue, introduced him to the love of his life, Afton Maycock. They were married in the Salt Lake, LDS temple on June 5th, 1961. Bud graduated from the University of Utah in 1963 with a BS in History.

Inspired by an earlier business trip to New York City, he and his wife, Afton, relocated to Summit, New Jersey and raised their family there. Bud had a successful career as a VP of Training and Development, specializing in the financial industry, and also served as president of his local American Society of Training & Development (ATD) chapter several times. Prior to his professional retirement from CIT Finance, Bud was called to serve as Bishop of the LDS Church in Short Hills, NJ, where he dedicated his time and talents to serve the congregation he loved.

Those who knew Bud remember him for his service to others, love of family and generosity of spirit. He was fun-loving, ever-encouraging, and selfless as a father, and he loved and adored his grandchildren. Bud joins his wife, Afton M. Nickerson, his parents, and four siblings who preceded him in death.

Bud will be forever remembered by his two daughters Julie and Jill, both of New York, and his son, Charles (Tamara), of Idaho, and four grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 11:00 AM, preceded by a viewing from 9:45-10:45 AM, at the LDS Chapel, 55 North Main Street, Springville, UT. Interment will be at the Historic Springville City Cemetery.
