Mr. Charles Mallie Person, son of H.S., Sr. and Mallelieu Lawrence Person was born on July 25, 1936 in Florence, South Carolina. He departed his earthly life on Monday, January 14, 2019. Charles graduated from Wilson High School in Florence, South Carolina.

He later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Biology from South Carolina State University. While attending college at State, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. Upon graduation from college, Charles served honorably in the Army, where he rose to the rank of Captain.

After being Honorably Discharged, he remained on inactive status as a ROTC Commander at Coolidge High School, and later Phelps Technical College, both in Washington, DC. After retiring from the military, Charles returned to South Carolina State University, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling Education. In 1973, General Electric opened in Florence, South Carolina, and Charles served as the Human Re Manager.

He later left GE and became the Bar Manager at the South Carolina Country Club, which he loved with a passion. He remained with the Country Club until his retirement in 2018 at the age of 82. Charles was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.

He also served as a Commissioner for Florence City and County Departments, Post Commander of the American Legion, he was a member of the South Carolina State College Alumni Association, he was an Inductee of the Wilson High School Athletic Hall of Fame, he received the Founders Award from the Calvin Coolidge Alumni Association, Inc., and he was awarded Employee of the Year at the South Carolina County Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Lynch Person. He is survived by: his three children: Charles Anthony Person of Lenoir, NC; Terry L. Bellamy of Conway, SC; and Gregory S. Person, Sr. of Lenoir, NC; four grandchildren; one brother, Houston S. Person of Great Neck, NY; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and friends.
