Obituary for Kathryn “Kathy” Pridgeon Stewart Kathryn “Kathy” Pridgeon Stewart, 65, of Florence, SC passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019. Kathy was born in Florence, SC a daughter of the late Early Quinton Pridgeon, Jr. and Joyce Mable Boswell Pridgeon. She graduated from West Florence High School and had worked for NLDAC Landscaping.

She devoted a good part of her life to what she truly loved, for those who knew her she had a passion for animals. Years ago, Kathy saw a great need for caring for animals in the community. She established “Home Away from Home” which provided a home like setting for boarding cats and dogs.

As the needs grew, she built an addition on her home to accommodate the ever growing demands for her passion. In addition to her boarding business, during this time, Kathy established a non-for profit animal rescue. Her love, devotion and selflessness gave her the drive to provide a better life for abandoned and abused animals resulting in her rescuing and placing over 1000 animals (cats and dogs) during her time in the rescue.

Kathy was well respected in the rescue community by all her peers. She was generous to a fault when helping not only the animals she was so truly dedicated to, she extended herself to help many people in need. She touched the hearts of many; she is loved and will be truly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother, Frankie M. Pridgeon. Surviving are her brother, Jody L. Pridgeon of Florence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to John Thompson, P.O. Box 12511, Florence, SC 29504, this will enable John to continue his work in animal rescue in Kathy’s memory.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Please send messages to the family at the obit section of www. stoudenmiredowling.com.
