Obituary of Charles Campbell Charles Scott “Scooter” Campbell, 44, died unexpectedly in his Indianapolis apartment on June 6, 2018. He was born on September 24, 1973, in Marion to Charles and Wendy Campbell. He graduated from Mississinewa High School in 1991 and then joined the U.S. Army, specializing in Ordinance Engineering.
He served six years with several decorations and awards including a driver and mechanic badge, sharpshooter marksmanship badge, and humanitarian service medal after participating in disaster relief for Hurricane Andrew. After being honorably discharged, he moved back to Gas City with his family and began working for GenCorp. as an HVAC mechanic.
Scott’s children remember him as a driven father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. He was an accomplished carpenter and often brought his children on jobs to teach them the trade. He was a smart and talented individual who cared a lot about his family and friends.
Scott was particularly proud of his Kentucky roots. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, especially since he enjoyed fixing things. He loved music and dancing, loved to make people laugh, and was the life of the party.
Some of his favorite hobbies were fishing, camping, watching sports, and thumbing through history books. Scott was extremely proud of his children, Haley and Alex, and loved his grandson, Cassidy, to pieces. Survivors include his parents, Charles (Wendy) Campbell, Marion; grandparents, Berniece (Larry) Hall, Gas City; children, Haley Campbell (Cade Justice), Bloomington, and Alex Campbell (Taylor Bartlett), Marion; siblings, Chad (Kim) Campbell, Gas City, and Bethany (Cameron) Dryer, Marion; special cousin, Jeni (Troy) Cox, Gas City; grandson, Cassidy Justice; nephews, Cade and Carson Campbell; and niece, Charlee Dryer.
The family will receive visitors from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2018, at Grace Community Church, 1810 E. Bradford Pike, Marion. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Scott’s life at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018, at the church with Chad Drake speaking. Burial is at 11 a.m. at Marion National Cemetery.
