Obituary of Wayne Dockerty Wayne “Doc” Dockerty, 77, Marion, passed away at 1 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2018, at Rolling Meadows Health Care Center in LaFontaine. He was born on November 14, 1940, in Iron Mountain, Michigan, and was the son of the late James and Emma (Benham) Dockerty. On April 16, 1988, he married Tamara DeHoff, and she survives.

Wayne was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. He worked at Fleet Supply (now Big R) for several years prior to becoming the club manager at AmVets, where he was also a life member. Wayne also held memberships at the American Legion and VFW.

An avid sports enthusiast, Wayne was a huge IU/Bobby Knight fan and he “strongly disliked” Purdue. Everyone knew where he stood on this matter. Wayne also loved NASCAR and especially followed Jeff Gordon.

Wayne was known for being pretty ornery, and he liked to joke around with people. When it came to his family, there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for them. He loved them dearly and enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible.

He treasured the times he could go and watch his grandson Ashton’s ballgames. And his yard? He loved mowing it and riding on his mower.

While mowing, he would talk to the kids next door. He made such an impact on them that they sent him a card telling him much they missed him outside mowing. His memory will continue, and he will be missed by his loving wife of 30 years, Tamara; son, Dirk (Michelle Elgi) Justice, Kokomo; grandson, Ashton Justice, Kokomo; granddaughter, Haylee (Brandon) Bass, Kokomo; great-granddaughter, Aria Bass; sisters, Anna Fitz, Kokomo, and Norma (Bud) Rogers, Sharpsville; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Marty (Robin) Pattison; mother-in-law, Beatrice DeHoff; and his special dog, Precious.

Also preceding him in death were brothers, Marvin, James, Hillis, Bud, and Robert Dockerty; sisters, Ellen Gunther, Patty Dockerty, and Wilma Dockerty; and father-in-law, David DeHoff. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave. , Marion, IN.

Services to celebrate Wayne’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at the funeral home with Chaplain Don Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, 1800 Grant St., Logansport, IN. Online condolences may be made at www.
