Charlotte “Char” M. Schmidt, age 65, of Alexandria, died unexpectedly, Monday, June 4, 2018, at her home. Visitation is 4-7 pm, Friday, June 8, 2018, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria. A private family service will take place at a later date.

Charlotte “Char” Marie was born on September 11, 1952, in Walker. When she graduated from high school she attended the Brainerd Tech School in the Dental Hygienist Program. It was at this time that she met the love of her life, Carter Schmidt.

They were united in marriage on January 8, 1972, at St. Mary’s Church in Alexandria. Char and Carter were in agreement before marriage that they would have lots of children. Char’s biggest desire was that no child should ever have to feel unwanted or unloved.

So together they adopted eight children. There were also countless other adoptions of the heart of women and teenagers who just needed to be loved. Char was a selfless, extremely giving person.

She loved her family and grandchildren more than life itself. She spent every moment she could making memories with them and prayed with the heart of a warrior, fervently for all of them. Her favorite thing to do other than spending time with her family was go camping with her husband, watch the birds with him in the evening and laugh at all the ups and downs of their life.

Her sense of humor made the worst of circumstances feel a bit lighter. She will be greatly missed and Sunday family dinners just won’t be the same anymore without her there. Char is survived by her husband of 46 years, Carter; 10 children, Caryn (Kevin) Schutz and Christopher (Tiffany) Schmidt both of Alexandria, Kevin Schmidt of Minneapolis, Olivia (Bill) Kinsley of Overland Park, Kansas, Daniel (Dawn) Schmidt of Nelson, Nick Schmidt, Tiffany Lynn Schmidt, Travis Schmidt and Troy Howe all of Alexandria, and Cassie (Dustin) Kolasa of Fargo, North Dakota; and 13 grandchildren, Isaiah, Joseph, Sophie, and Ellasandra Schutz, Katelynn, Emma, Julia, and Tyler Schmidt, Maci and Gavin Schmidt, Ava Howe, and Clark and Oliver Kolasa.

Memorials preferred to Place of Hope, 511 9th Ave N, St Cloud, MN 56303.
