Chloe Rose Ostema, 23, of Kalamazoo and formerly of Traverse City passed away March 20, 2019. Chloe was born on September 21, 1995 in Charlevoix to Dale and Debbie (DeChant) Ostema. Chloe was the beloved sister of Jay and Alison.

Chloe graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 2014. She furthered her education at Western Michigan University and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in December of 2018. Chloe was in the process of planning for her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and was accepted into the programs at Western and Andrews University.

Chloe was a bright light in this world and had a radiant, beautiful smile. She loved spending time with her family and friends, and was loved by so many in return. Being outdoors in creation brought Chloe joy and peace.

Her favorite places included local beaches, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and the mountains of New Hampshire where family resides. Chloe was a gifted artist and crafted beautiful pieces of jewelry. She had a deep faith in God and was a follower of Jesus.

This grounded her and gave her hope. Even when her mental illness took her to a dark place, she knew there was a love that would never let her go. Today she knows that love in its fullness.

Chloe will be remembered with love by her parents Dale and Debbie; her brother Jay of Traverse City; sister Alison (Alex) Lance of Salt Lake City, Utah; grandfather Joseph DeChant, and Aunts Barb (Howard) Grimberg and Denise DeChant. Chloe was preceded in death by her grandmother, Thais DeChant; grandparents Jay and Lorraine Ostema; Aunt Carolyn Reno and Uncle Jay Ostema. A Service of Death and Resurrection and celebration of Chloe’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, 12 Noon at Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City.

A visitation hour will begin at 11 a.m. In honor of Chloe, friends are invited to plant or wear simple white daises. Memorial contributions in Chloe’s memory may be directed to the Traverse City Chapter of Northern Alliance for Mental Health (N.A.M.I) (P.O. Box 6932, Traverse City, MI 49686) or to the Wesley House at Western Michigan University (1903 W. Michigan Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49008-5403.
