Obituary for Clarence Morris Sr. Print Clarence Franklin Morris, Sr., age 81 of 1415 Staunton Street in Selma, Virginia passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, May 20, 2019 at his residence. He was born October 1, 1937 in Iron Gate to the late Emmett Franklin Morris and Josephine Tyree Morris. He served in the United States Army and also for three years in the Army National Guard.

He was a custodian for Alleghany County Public Schools and worked in construction for many years through various contractors. He sang in the gospel group “The Spiritual Believers”, and loved music, hunting, and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and five sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Mays Morris of Selma; two daughters, Brenda Carter and husband Kim of Roanoke, and Pat Kern and Woody Garrett of Clifton Forge; four sons, C. F. Morris and Sue Woodruff of Covington, Rick Morris of Selma, Doug Morris and wife Treva of Selma, and Joey Morris and wife Nikki of Selma; a brother, Jessie Morris and wife Josephine of Covington; seven grandchildren, Jesse Morris and wife Jen, John Kern, Jr. and wife Maggie, Ryan Kern, Josh Morris, Kaitlin Carter and Jerry, Jacob Morris, and Makenzie Morris; three great grandchildren, Lillie, Levi, and Mya; two step great grandchildren, Ali and Carli; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver, Alyssa Farren. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pastor Dean Bowser officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor.

Mr. Morris’ sons will serve as pallbearers as well as Kim Carter and Frankie Morris. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Morris’ grandsons and members of the Selma Fire Department. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home.
