Clinton’s Obituary Clinton Clayton Phillips, 99, passed away May 17, 2019 at Indianola Nursing and Rehab. Clayton was born on April 13, 1920 in Darlove, Mississippi to Carol and Belar Clayton Phillips. Clayton enlisted in the Army on October 10, 1940.

He served with the Second Armored Division in WWII. Clayton saw action in North Africa, Sicily and France. He received the “Purple Heart” while attempting to land in France on June 11, 1944.

Upon returning to Indianola, he married Annie Pearl Foster where he worked for Central Buick and Ludlow Textile until his retirement. After retirement he worked as a refrigeration repairman and independent contractor for Indianola Academy for many years. Clayton was known for his love of fishing and could be found with his boat on any day, on area lakes.

A lifelong member and founder of Christ United Methodist Church of Indianola, he attended faithfully as long as his health allowed. He is proceeded in death by his beloved wife, Annie Pearl Foster. He is survived by a son, David Phillips and wife Sherry of Madison; daughter, Sara Phillips of Indianola; grandson, Brandon Phillips and wife, Lea, great grandchildren, Clay Phillips and Raylea Phillips all of Fritzgerald, GA; Granddaughter, Jennifer Zepponi and husband, Quinn, of Indianola, and great grandchildren, Andrew Carithers of Indianola and Swayze Carithers of Flowood, MS; Granddaughter, Lindsey McCaskill and husband, Hunter, great grandchildren Bailey Partridge and Sarah Foster McCaskill all of Indianola.

He will be remembered most as a loving husband and father, a devoted grandfather and great grandfather, and loyal friend to many. He never met a stranger and went out of his way to help others. The family will receive friends Monday, May 20, 2019 from 1:00 pm until the 2:00 pm funeral service at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola.

A private family burial will follow at Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.
