OBITUARY Clyde “Rocky” Sorrell Jr. December 4, 1951 – January 2, 2019 Clyde “Rocky” Sorrell, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at the age of 67. He was born on December 4, 1951 in Tacoma Park, Maryland to the late Clyde Herbert Sorrell, Sr. and Virginia Lovick Sorrell. He is also preceded in death by his late aunt, Hazel Saul.

Rocky is survived by his wife Dr. Gale Naquin Sorrell; children Clyde “Rocky” Sorrell III and Dr. Margaret Virginia Sorrell and husband Dr. Reeder Robinson; step-children Clint Szubinski and wife Kimberly, Ryan Szubinski and wife Hannah, and Jaclyn Dufrene and husband Brad; sister Dr. Paula Jules Sorrell and husband Dr. Robert Johnson; grandchild Connor, step-grandchildren Kyla, Tate, Liam, Aiden, Ryland, Logan, Gavin and Emrie; Rocky graduated from Virginia Tech in 1973 and University of Virginia Law School in 1976. His legal career spanned many years as a practicing attorney. He was the County Attorney for Montgomery County Maryland, where he gained a faithful following in Montgomery County.

His experience also included private practice Hogan & Hartson, LLP where he was a partner from 1990-2000. After that time up to his retirement in 2017, Rocky served as Montgomery College’s General Council where he constructed a solid legal foundation upon which the college relies. Rocky was awarded the Silver Medallion in recognition to the college and community.

Rocky was a member of the Maryland and District of Columba Bar Associations. Rocky enjoyed life and was always busy in many community activities. He has served on The Virginia Tech Alumni and Planning committee for was an active member for 46 years.

In 2005, Rocky visited New Orleans and subsequently feel in love with the city that he has called home for the past 14 years. Embracing the city and its’ people, culture and fine food, Rocky quickly became an active community member. He has been a member of the New Orleans Historic Preservation Society of New Orleans, Ogden Museum, Charter member of the WWII Museum, a Saints season ticket holder and a Duke in the Knights of Babylon.

Friends, family and by-passers could often see Rocky celebrating for Saints events and in full regal Mardi Gras attire as “King of the Avenue”. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, Louisiana on Thursday, January 10, 2018 at 11:00am.

Visitation will begin at 9:00am. Interment to follow in All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to The Brees Dream Foundation, www.
