Cora Ruth Peterson Johnson Ward, age 88, of Marion, North Carolina passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Rosehill Retirement Community. Mrs. Ward was born April 9, 1930 in Yancey County, NC to the late Burnie Peterson and Savanah McKinney Peterson. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, James Johnson. Those left behind to cherish Mrs. Ward’s memory are her son, Dick Van Johnson and wife, Dinah; two grandsons, Heath Johnson and wife, Kelsey and Chad Johnson and wife, Ashley; two great-grandsons, Archer Johnson and Easton Johnson; and one great-granddaughter, Raylyn Johnson. A graveside service to celebrate Mrs. Ward’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Green-Hill Cemetery in Asheville, NC with her grandson, Chad Johnson officiating.
