Cornelia G. Winchell, 95, of Merrill, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Ascension St. Clare’s Hospital, Weston. Cornelia was born April 16, 1923, in Tomahawk, daughter of the late Theodor and Agnes (Bartels) Amelse. She married Stillman E. Winchell on July 12, 1940 in Tomahawk.

He preceded her in death on August 17, 1980. Cornelia worked at Weinbrenner Shoe Company in Merrill and was also a homemaker. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill, and served… Read More » as a Red Cross volunteer.

Cornelia enjoyed baking, knitting and collecting all things with rabbit on them. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Winchell of Merrill and Anna Winchell (Clarence Hayek, Jr.) of Wausau; sons, Emmit (Donna) Winchell of Merrill, Levi Winchell of Merrill, Edmund Winchell of Merrill, Gerald (Nancy) Winchell of Mayville, Wisconsin, Gerard Winchell of Weston and Louis (Mary Ann) Winchell of Hatley; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and brothers, George (Johanna) Amelse of Merrill and Theodore (Wilhelmina) Amelse of Tomahawk.

Cornelia was preceded in death by her husband, Stillman Winchell; parents, Theodor and Agnes Amelse; daughters, infant Agnes Winchell, Carol Winchell and Susan Winchell; great-grandson, Landon; sisters, Theckla Berndt, Johanna Schlosser and Mary Stevenson; and brothers, Nicholas Amelse, John Amelse and Albert Amelse. The Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 19, 2018 at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Deacon Dan Towle will preside.

Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Sunday and after 10:00 A.M. Monday all at the funeral home. Burial will take place at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Merrill. Online condolences may be made at www.
