Cornelio C. Sanchez Sr. Age 69, of Buckley, WA passed away on March 27, 2018 in Puyallup. Born April 10, 1948 in Boca Raton, New Mexico, Cornelio was the son of Cornelio and Macedonia Sanchez (Lopez). Cornelio grew up the only son with 3 sisters whom he loved dearly.

Cornelio was a man of honor who proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. He found the love of his life when he married Lorina Munoz, with whom he was blessed to raise a wonderful family of 3 daughters, one son, 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Anyone who knew Cornelio knew him for his wonderful, light up the room smile, an image that everyone will treasure forever.

Cornelio was a man of the people. He loved to help out anyone who needed him; he loved to feed people; and he could charm anyone. All throughout his life, he was a hard worker, making sure to provide for his family as best he could.

This included a long career as a heavy equipment operator with the Seattle Water Department. He loved his annual hunting trips with his children and grandchildren; none of the grandkids caught anything, but a lot of fun was had and plenty of good memories were made. When they did get deer or elk meat, everyone was a happy camper; especially him.

After all, he was a meat, potatoes and tortilla kind of guy. His son remembers him as the perfect shot. Something he surely learned from his time in the marines.

During his spare time, Cornelio loved to take long drives, his eagle eyes spotting and pointing out everything along the way. He loved to boast about his grandchildren. He was so very proud of them.

Cornelio will be remembered by those who love him as a wonderful, faithful family man who devoted his life to the love of his wife and family. Cornelio is survived by his son Cornelio Sanchez Jr. and wife Corina of Bonney Lake; daughters Tricia Wood and husband Daniel of Buckley and Denise Hagler and husband Corey of Bonney Lake; 12 grandchildren, Carlos, Cameron, Cicero, Cecelia, Cristy, Christopher and Teresa Sanchez, Johnny Barrientes, Anthony and Jacinta Wood, Isaac and unborn Baby Hagler. Cornelio is also survived by 15 great grandchildren and 2 sisters, Irene Sanchez of Salt Lake City and Marie Lawless of Michigan.

Cornelio is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lorina Sanchez; daughter, Anna-Marie Barrientes and sister, Rosalee Fresquez. A visitation will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Weeks’ Funeral Home, Buckley, WA. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial to follow at Wilkeson Catholic Cemetery.
