Craig A. Tame December 19, 1948 – March 11, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Craig A. Tame, 70, of Lakewood, passed away Sunday after a brief struggle with cancer. He will be remembered for his public service, compassion and optimism. Craig was the son of the late George and Alice (nee Terbrack) Tame.

He is survived by his longtime companion Kathy St. John, his brother Gary (Gary Wood), his sister Karen Chatlos (Eddie), his nieces Megan Seaman, Jennifer McGinty (Patrick), nephews Ryan Vincent, Jeffrey Chatlos (Amy), Brian Chatlos, Tim Chatlos, Greg Chatlos, and his oldest friend, Isam Salah. Craig grew up in the West Park neighborhood of Cleveland and graduated from St. Edward High School, Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland – Marshall College of Law. He then began a remarkable career in government that spanned 40 years in which he helped shape policies focused on neglected and abused children, domestic violence, strategies to reduce violent crime, and the opioid epidemic, among others.

Craig was a longtime employee of Cuyahoga County, eventually serving as director of the Department of Justice Affairs, before taking a job in the Cleveland Mayor’s Cabinet as Chief of Health and Public Safety. He then joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office to serve as Law Enforcement Coordinator, where he worked until the time of his death. Craig loved many things – his “sweetie” Kathy, St. Edward athletics, red wine, law enforcement and first responders, and long meetings, which were always attended with a venti Starbucks coffee in hand.

He traveled abroad frequently with Kathy and on “brothers’ trips” to exotic destinations with his brother Gary. He served as a mentor to all around him, often encouraging young people to embrace public service. He had an indefatigable belief that the world could be made a better, safer place, particularly if people worked together.

Even in the worst weather or battling cancer, Craig found a way to attend nearly every St. Edward football or basketball game. He loved the honesty of hard work. The more humble your beginnings, the more interested Craig was.

He asked about your family. And he dedicated his life to making us all safer. FUNERAL MASS SATURDAY MARCH 16, 2019 AT 10 A.M. AT OUR LADY OF ANGELS CHURCH, 3644 ROCKY RIVER DR.
