Obituary for Dale E. “Horsefly” Cartmill Rush Springs: Dale E. “Horsefly” Cartmill, departed this life in route to the next on Thursday, April 5, 2018 in Lawton, at the age of 93. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Marlow, with Rev. Billy Adams officiating.

Burial will follow in the Marlow Cemetery with Military Honors performed by the Stephens County Honor Guard. All arrangements have been entrusted to the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow. Horsefly was born Monday, October 13, 1924 in Carter, OK, to Roy and Iona (Kring) Cartmill.

He graduated from Carter High School. He had lived in the Rush Springs and Marlow area since 1952. He married his wonderful wife Margie Jean Henley on October 21, 1950 in Elk City.

They had 51 amazing years together before her passing on July 27, 2008. Horsefly was an amazing husband that loved his wife dearly as well as the rest of his family. He served with General Patton’s 3rd Army in WII.

He worked as a tool pusher for Parker Drilling for more then 39 years before retiring and will always be remembered as a hardworking man that enjoyed his time working in the oilfield. Horsefly took good care of his family and farm both of which were the pride of his life. He was a member of the VFW and the Masonic Lodge as well as the Church of Christ.

Survivors include, 2 daughters, Judy Jean Turner and husband Harold of Chickasha, Theresa Dail Scardina and husband Ray of Frankston, TX, a grandson, Glenn Eldon Turner and wife Tracy of Ninnekah, a great-grandson, Dalen James Turner of Ninnekah, and a sister, Betty Jo Reed and husband Carl of Altus. Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers, Earl Glen Cartmill, Leroy Cartmill. Pallbearers will be: Phillip Meyers, Brett Meyers, V.A. Dixon, Robert Pelley Jr., and Ronnie Riley.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Conn Goodwin and V.R. Riley. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations can be made to the American Ahlzeimers Association. Online condolences may be made to www.
