Dalton’s Obituary Dalton “Delty” H. Mater, ge 85 of Sparta and formerly of Fremont, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019 in Grand Rapids. Delty was born on January 28, 1933 in Sandusky, Michigan to Arnold and Ina (Powell) Mater and graduated from Fremont High School. Delty was drafted into the United States Army in 1953 and served during the Korean War.

Delty married Evelyn Carrier on January 3, 1953 in Fremont and had been a longtime resident of the Fremont area. Delty had worked as an electrician in construction for Local #275 in Muskegon for several years until his retirement. He enjoyed playing baseball, basketball and football in high school, enjoyed watching sports of all kinds and was an avid Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings Fan.

Delty also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, flower and vegetable gardening, and jigsaw puzzles. Delty is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn “Evie” of Sparta; his children, Karla Charles of Rockford; Kathy (Steve) VanHouten of Sparta; Arnie (Pam) Mater of Fremont; Lea Ann (Terry) Jones of Rockford; Lisa Kelly of Ferrysburg; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; his sisters, Gayle (Charles) Dore of Fremont; Dolores (Glen) Klomp of Whitehall. He was preceded in death by his sister, Willie Johnson and his brother, Duane Mater.

VISITATION : Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 10-11am at the Reeman Christian Reformed Church 6121 Fitzgerald Ave Fremont MI 49412 with MILITARY HONORS at 11am and MEMORIAL SERVICES to follow at the Reeman Christian Reformed Church. INTERMENT : Maple Grove Cemetery.
