Struthers – Daniel James Woodward, Sr., 80, of Struthers, died Thursday morning, October 18, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center. Mr. Woodward was born March 2, 1938 in Steubenville, OH, a son of Daniel and Esther Hambelton Woodward. As a young boy his family came to Youngstown and later resided in Struthers.

He attended East High School and in 1956 enlisted in the United States Air Force and served at Dover Air Force Base. While serving in the Air Force, Daniel received his G.E.D. In 1960 he was honorably discharged and returned to the area and made his home in Struthers. Dan worked at numerous places including Frank’s Electric, General Fireproofing, Aadams Appliance and as a self employed repairman.

In 1976 he established Dan’s Appliance Repair Service for commercial laundry and cooking equipment. In 1994 he closed the business and was employed as a truck driver for PGT and later Steel Trucking where he retired after 10 years of service. After retirement Dan drove a bus for the Struthers City Schools for eight years.

He was a member of Faith Fellowship Church of God and was a life member of Disabled American Veterans. In his free time, Dan enjoyed continued his love of repairing odds and ends and anything electrical. Dan was a wonderful husband and father and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

His eyes would light up when they came into the room. He leaves his wife, the former Mathilda Klein, whom he married July 1, 1958; two daughters, Jean Marie Shade of Boardman and Diana Lynn (Gary) Kubic of Bluffton, SC; three sons, Daniel James Woodward Jr. of Fort Worth, TX, David (Cathie) Woodward of Struthers, and Dale (Jeanette) Woodward of Myerstown, PA; one sister, Margaret (Larry) Singer of Salem; ten grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua Eaton; two sisters, Donna Wright and Susanne DePuis; and one brother Daniel Joseph Woodward, Jr. A funeral service will be held at Thursday, 6:00 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers with Pastor Jonathan Mitchell officiating.

Friends will be received Thursday from 3-5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
