Daniel R. Tabacheck, 39, of Harmar, passed away unexpectedly at his home on May 20, 2018. He was born on September 18, 1978 to his parents; mother, Carol McCurdy Tabacheck and his father, the late Regis Tabacheck. Dan was a lifelong member of St. Alphonsus Church in Springdale.
Dan played football, basketball and baseball at Springdale High School and was named Prom King in 1996. Dan received his bachelor’s Degree in Outdoor Recreation Management at Lock Haven University and was a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity. Dan was employed as a Support Therapist at The Friendship Academy of The Watson Institute for the past 11 years.
In his younger days, Dan and Colleen would travel anywhere to experience their favorite bands, the Dead and Phish. Dan loved music and had an eclectic assortment of instrument including his own handmade didgeridoo. He was an incredibly active participant in the Boy Scouts of America; he achieved the rank of Life Scout, he was a leader in Cub Scout Pack #554 and he was the Activities Coordinator of Troop #504.
Dan also volunteered as a coach for Harmar Soccer Club, coaching his sons and their friends for the past 10 years. He was the Captain of the Harmar Hell Cats Over 30 Soccer Team. Dan also served as the Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Springdale Free Public Library.
He was a Black Card-carrying member of The Leaning Cask Brewery. Dan could frequently be seen in Springdale and Cheswick riding his bike, or on the Allegheny River paddling his boats with his wife, sons, brothers and friends. Dan biked the Greater Allegheny Passage and kayaked the entire length of the Upper Allegheny with his sons.
Dan completed 4 Triathalons and camped, fished, played disc golf, hiked, cross country skied, snow-shoed, went orienteering, and enjoyed geocaching. He also loved walking his dogs Mojo and Memphis Hank and he was proud owner for 15 years of Gandalf, who proceeded him in death. He was a gentle giant who was a pillar of our community.
Surviving him are his loving wife of 17 years, Colleen Murphy Tabacheck; his son’s August and Ryder Tabacheck; his sister Denise Tabacheck; his brothers Derek (Bailie) Tabacheck and Dennis (Laurie) Tabacheck; his nephew Lachlan Tabacheck and his niece Ainsley Tabacheck; his in-laws, Jim and Clare Murphy and his brother-in-law Brian Murphy. Dan’s family will receive friends on Wednesday May 23rd from 2pm until 8pm in THE CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME INC. 801 Pgh.
St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10am at St. Alphonsus Church. Everyone is asked to PLEASE MEET AT the CHURCH. Burial will be private for immediate family.
