Dan was born and raised in Tacoma. He grew up skateboarding its streets, jumping into the Puget Sound from its train trestles, and attending as many punk rock shows as he could.
He had a passion for music, as anyone who was witness to his CD and T-shirt collection would attest. He was fiercely loyal to those he called friend, and even more so to those he called family. Once he liked you, you were stuck with him.
Daniel brought energy and laughter to all of his relationships. Graduating from Stadium High School in 1994, he served his country honorably in the United States Army, stationed in Hawaii, Egypt, and Haiti. After 9/11 Daniel re-enlisted in the United States Army Reserves at Ft.
Lewis, Washington. Daniel was proud to be an American. Although facing many challenges throughout his life, Daniel persevered.
He held value in the living life through meaning and purpose philosophy of Dr. Viktor Frankl, and embraced the attitude of “Never, Never, Never Give Up” championed by Sir Winston Churchill. Above all, Daniel was an unabashed follower of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Up until his final day, Daniel had been working on a degree in the Human Services Field.
This career path reflects his passion to be of help to others. The family wishes to thank the faculty and staff of the Tacoma Community College Human Services Program that provided him with hope and direction, and Dr. David Haapala of Bold Solutions for providing Daniel with the opportunity to apply his training and skills. Additionally, the family greatly appreciates the staff of Greater Lakes Behavioral Healthcare for helping Daniel to develop a better quality of life.
Daniel was especially proud of being a father. His daughter, Delaney, was a constant of pride, joy, love, and wonder for him. He was always at the ready with a photo and a story of her.
Daniel is survived by his father Michael J. McGuire, mothers Lynn Peirsol Reed and Marlene Johnson McGuire, brothers Michael (Karry), David (Kathy), and Jonathan (Melissa), Grandmother Norma Poe, daughter Delaney, stepfather Larry Reed, and many aunts, uncles, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
