She was born in Kettle Falls, WA on April 11, 1929 to Fred and Esther Covington. Her family moved to Tacoma in 1942.

At fourteen she met the love of her life when Gene Watson asked her to a music competition, the beginning of their lifetime relationship. In 1947 both graduated from Lincoln High School. In October 1949 they were married at Central Baptist Church in Tacoma where they were members.

For the next 60+ years they served in many different capacities at Central. For the last 13 years they have fellowshipped at Praise Covenant Church. Together they raised three daughters.

Mary Ann’s career included several clerical and supervisory positions but her greatest accomplishment was raising her three girls. Mary Ann was known for her entertaining and organizational skills and loved giving themed parties. Her crocheting, knitting and sewing were exceptional.

Many people benefited from her beautiful projects. Mary Ann and Gene traveled extensively and felt blessed to have seen much of the world. Hawaii was one of their favorite spots and every January until recent years they spent three weeks on Maui.

Mary Ann had a personal commitment to Jesus Christ. She exhibited her faith in God by her actions and daily living. Her compassion for others was exemplary.

The family home was always open to friends and guests at any time and especially at the holidays. She was always willing to give without expecting anything in return. Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 69 years, Gene, her daughters Robin Jones (Bob), Sue Linke (Mike), Wendy Tuell (Todd) and eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

The memorial service is at Praise Covenant Church on January 19, 2019 at 2:00 PM. Thank you to the staff and caregivers at Hearthside Manor for their compassionate and loving care during the last four years. We are also grateful to Hospice for their care and comfort.
