Darryle’s Obituary Darryle “Baggy” Gaylord Parris, 68, of Hopewell, Virginia, succumbed to dementia at the comfort of his own home surrounded by his daughters on Tuesday, December 18, 2018. Darryle was born October 31, 1950, in Steubenville, Ohio to William “Baggy” and Lucille Parris. He graduated from Steubenville High School in 1969.

Later that year, he married his former partner Ethel Elizabeth “Liz” Berryman in Steubenville, Ohio. In 1970, Darryle and Liz welcomed two daughters, Darcy “Dart” and Marcy “Mart” Parris. In 1973, Darryle relocated to Hopewell, Virginia with his family.

He became a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Hopewell, Virginia in 1976 where he later served as Treasurer. After he and Liz divorced in 1985, he never wavered. Not only did he continue to be a great protector and provider to his children, but he was also incredibly devoted, loving and supportive.

For thirty-six years, Darryle was employed at Dupont Teijin Films (formerly, ICI Americas, Inc.) in various capacities where he later retired in 2010. He enjoyed fishing and watching westerns and football, while he cheered on his beloved Cleveland Browns. Darryle is survived by his two daughters and a son, Darcy Parris of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Marcy Parris of Glen Allen, Virginia, and Andre “Dre’” Johnson of Dallas, Texas, two siblings, Gregory Parris of Queens, New York and Ingrid Gilbert of Columbus, Ohio, and two nieces and a nephew, Amber, Wesley, and Courtney Gilbert of Columbus, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lucille Parris. On Friday, December 28, 2018, the visitation will be held at Second Baptist Church, 717 Adams Street, Steubenville, Ohio from 10 a.m. to noon, and the funeral services immediately following. The burial will be held at Union Cemetery, 1720 Sunset Boulevard, Steubenville, Ohio, and the repast will follow at Second Baptist Church.

Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at act. alz.org in Darryle’s honor. Flowers may be delivered to Gregory-Martin Funeral Home, 711 South Street, Steubenville, Ohio 43952.
