Dave’s Obituary David P. Filholm, age 80, of Huron, SD passed away on Friday, February 15, 2019 at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with military honors by the Huron Veterans Council. Visitation will be from 11:30 until the time of service on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at the Welter Funeral Home.

David Paul Filholm, the son of George and Charlotte (Smith) Filholm was born on November 5, 1938 in Brookings, SD. He attended school in the Brookings area. Dave served his country in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged on October 9, 1959.

Dave worked as a police officer in Huron for 10 years. He then worked as a car salesman for Chuck Porter Ford and Prostrollo’s for 30 years. Dave married Carolyn DuBois on November 27, 1982 in Huron.

Dave attended Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron for many years. He was also a member of Little League Baseball and very active in Alcoholics Anonymous. Dave enjoyed tinkering on motors and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Fishing was also a favorite pastime of Dave’s. Grateful for having shared in Dave’s life are his wife Carolyn of Huron; his sons Mark and Tom Filholm; step children Brian (Dolores) Wilken and Melissa Buus, both of Huron; 11 grandchildren Whitney Wilken, Wade Wilken, Avalon Wilken, Mercedes Wilken, Krystal Wilken, Kelsea Swenson, and Dustin Wilken, Juan Urena, Alonso Urena, Maribel Urena, and Joseph Dooley; 21 great-grandchildren Karla, Kayla, Kaylee, Katalia, Alexis, Juan, Alyssa, Ayla, Easton, Alondra, Andrea, Avril, Alonso, Tyler, Jazmyn, Lennon, Xaivion, Liam, Lillian, Zamir, and Alicyn; brother Douglas Filholm of Brookings ; and several nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter Charlotte Filholm; 3 great-grandchildren; 1 brother Jim Filholm; and 3 sisters, Loretta Quinn, Genevieve Holm, and Geraldine Jensen.
