Obituary for David Bookert, Sr. David Bookert, Sr., departed this life on Thursday, December 27, 2018, in the evening hours at WBJ Dorn VA Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina, and took his place amongst God’s eternal dwellers. Born August 1, 1941 in Columbia, he was a son of the late Mary Bookert Giles and Clarence Elkins Sr. David loved learning, and after graduating from C.A. Johnson High School, continued his education at Voorhees College, Midlands Technical College and Furman University with honors. Not only did David love education, he also cherished his country.

So great was his love hat he served three years protecting and serving his nation in the United States Army. Ultimately, Mr. Bookert worked as a truck driver and machinist for the Lockheed Company. He was well loved by his family.

Though he was a quite man who appreciated solitude, David also loved everyone and would help them as much as he could. He leaves to cherish precious memories his children: David Kareem Bookert Jr. and Nicole Bookert; two sisters: Letha Mae Harris and Betty (Andrew) Glenn-Washington; two half sisters: Mary Lillian Halter and Sylvia Brown; a half brother, Clarence Elkins Jr.; nephews: Grandvelle Harris and Michael Harris; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss his presence.
