OBITUARY David “Dave” George Lucas March 18, 1942 – October 15, 2018 David G. “Dave” Lucas, age 76, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC died Monday October 15, 2018 at his residence of Non-Hodkins Lymphoma. He was born in Martinsburg, WV and was raised in Shepherdstown, WV, the son of the late S. Brooks Lucas and Nancy Small Lucas. He attended Shepherdstown Elementary and High Schools, graduating in 1960.
He received a BS degree in Journalism with a major in Advertising from West Virginia University in 1964. After working several years for Caterpillar Tractor Company in Peoria IL, he received his commission from the Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI, as an Ensign. While serving aboard the USS LIBERTY (AGTR-5) he received a Silver Star for bravery and a Purple Heart for injuries obtained during the controversial and still not fully explained June 8, 1967, attack on the LIBERTY by Israeli Forces in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.
After his three and half years of active duty, he worked for an advertising agency in Norfolk, VA and the Caterpillar dealer, Carter Machinery Company in Roanoke, VA. He was co-founder and part owner of a real estate firm in Virginia Beach, VA, and then managed a sales territory and sold electronic scales to heavy industrial users, such as steel mills and foundries for a company based in Cumberland, MD. He then moved to Severna Park, MD, and sold polymer based repair products and coatings for almost 20 years.
Dave obtained his Maryland residential real estate appraiser license and worked for a Maryland firm for over six years, obtaining additional licenses to appraise in Virginia, the District of Columbia and West Virginia. He formed his own appraisal firm in 2008 and retired in April of 2015 when he moved from Maryland to North Carolina. Dave enjoyed gardening, reading and music, especially 1950’s rock and roll.
Dave is survived by his wife of 20 years, Patricia A. Lucas of the home; two daughters, Tracy L. Macpherson and her husband, Doug of Severna Park, MD and Jennifer L. Lucas of Lawrenceville, GA; and her two sons, Charlie and Conner Phillips; he is also survived by two step-daughters, Debbi L. Murray and her husband, Stephen Yeager of Seattle, WA and Krista K. Johnston of Fishersville, VA and her two children, Nathan and Kendra; a brother, John T. Lucas and his wife, Judy of Martinsburg, WV. A celebration of his life will be held at The View at Brick Landing, 118 Goose Creek Road, SW Ocean Isle Beach from two to four o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday October 28, 2018.
