OBITUARY Mattie Merlene Robinson May 6, 1939 – December 29, 2018 Mattie Merlene Robinson, 79 of Shallotte passed away on December 29, 2018. Mrs. Robinson was born May 6, 1939 in Columbus County to the late Corbit and Ada Smith Simmons. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church; she will be remembered as a feisty woman who loved her family.

Survivors include three sons, Robert McLean and wife Brenda, Jimmy McLean and wife Sheila, and Danny McLean; a step-daughter, Anita Smith and husband Shawn; four brothers, James Oliver Simmons, James Carl Simmons, Waylon Simmons, and Johnny Simmons; five sisters, Maola White, Clara Mae Norris, Rose Clewis, Martha Malpass, and Wilma Cartrette; five grandchildren, Corbit McLean, Kayla McLean, Jamie Nelson, Christian McLean, and Landon McLean; four step-grandchildren, Brandon Bowser, Alex Smith, Chase Smith, and Chaden Smith; three great-grandchildren, Braxton McLean, Acacia Harris, and Charlotte Nelson. Mrs. Robinson was preceded in death by her husband Winfred Robinson; two brothers, James Culbert Simmons, and Dave Simmons; two sisters Inez Fulford, and Gennie Nelson. A memorial service will be held at Victory Baptist Church on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Leroy Martin officiating.
