David’s Obituary David Ewing Spence, 70, of Merrimack passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019 at his home after a period of declining health. David was born on February 24, 1948 in Nashua, NH to the late Robert Caldwell Spence and Andrea Dane Spence. He was a lifelong resident of Merrimack and shared his life for 46 years with his wife Betty (Gould) Spence.

Together they had their beloved daughter Megan Spence of Merrimack. In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by his sister Sybil Spence Rocca and her husband Ted of Knoxville, TN, his brother-in-law Neil Gould and wife Donna of Margate, FL, a very special friend David Stoddard of Merrimack and his dearly loved ragdoll cat Willow. He is predeceased by his nephew, Robert Gerald Kirkpatrick of Knoxville, TN and his faithful Ocicat Reno.

David served on the Merrimack Fire and Rescue for many years as an EMT, Call firefighter and Full time Firefighter. He worked for over 30 years as a CDLA driver hauling priority mail before retiring in 2015. He met many friends on the road which he remained in contact with.

He loved animals, the New England Patriots, good food, boating, fishing, history and debating politics. Music was always an important part of his life; He loved music and playing the electric guitar which brought him to becoming an impressive luthier, making, repairing, and selling electric guitars. David took fashion cues from no one.

His signature every day look was all his: a plain pocketed T-shirt designed by the fashion house Fruit of the Loom, wrangler blue jeans, a plaid flannel shirt, a brand-named pair of sneakers that he purchased only if they were on sale and a New England Patriots cap. He would spark a conversation with anyone and was always willing to help someone in need. He rarely held back his opinion and had a knack for telling it like it was.

“We can no longer see you with our eyes, touch you with our hands but we will feel you in our hearts forever”. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held in the spring.
