David F. Bertoldi,. 68, of Shillington, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon at his home, surrounded by his family, following a courageous five-year battle with cancer. Born in Hazleton, October 1, 1949, he was the son of the late Louis and Hazel (Gonda) Bertoldi, Jr

He grew up in Fern Glen with his six brothers and sisters and attended Black Creek Township and West Hazleton high schools where he was a standout athlete in baseball and basketball. David was a 1967 graduate of West Hazleton High school and a 1972 graduate of Penn State University; graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering. He worked for UGI in Reading for the past 42 years managing many of their facilities, including a large liquefied natural gas facility where he spent much of his career.

David Bertoldi was much loved by his wife and family. He left this world a much better place. He gave all of us a true sense of purpose and taught all that knew him; respect, honesty and the value of family and home.

Along with being a devoted Phillies fan, he was a man of nature who enjoyed hiking, searching for wild blueberries and harvesting mushrooms. He has left a large hole in our lives and will be eternally missed. Surviving are his wife of the past 34 years, the former Deborah Ann Dodson; two sons Ryan; Aaron and his wife Danielle and their sons Jacob and Caleb; three brothers Louis III “Butch” and his wife Pat; Joseph; Mark and his wife Sheila three sisters Diane Ontko and her husband Donald; Mary Kamerzel and her husband Dave; Kim Yenkevich and her husband Tom; and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held Thursday at 9:30 am from Harman Funeral Homes Inc. (West) 1265 Rock Glen Road, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Sacred Heart RC Church, 554 Main Street, Weston. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday evening 7-9 pm.

Memorial donations in memory of David may be made to the American Cancer Society.
