LOWVILLE – David F. “Sam” Kelley, 67, of East Martinsburg Road, died Friday morning, December 7, 2018. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., with Rev. Mr. Ron Pominville Deacon of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, officiating.

Military Honors will be observed at the funeral service. Per his request, he will be buried at sea. Calling hours will be held from 1 – 3 p.m., prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.

A gathering at the Lowville VFW will immediately follow the funeral service. Any food donations may be taken directly to the VFW on Thursday after 11:00 a.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the Beaver River Memorial Post 1663, Croghan American Legion, P.O. Box 217, Croghan, NY 13327; or the Lewis County Memorial Post 6912, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 7744 West State St., Lowville, NY 13367. He is survived by his two children, Adam Kelley and his wife, Stephanie, of Chittenango, NY; Eve Kelley of Lowville; four grandchildren, Ryan, Abigale, Adrienne and Amilia; ten brothers and sisters, and their spouses, John P. and Mary Kelley of Martinsburg; Kathleen Davis and her companion Cork Bartlett of Theresa; Sue Kelley of Carthage; Diane and Patrick Reape of Plant City, Florida; Teresa and Christopher Clark of Lowville; Donald G. “Bill” Kelley of Lowville; Michael J. and Windy Kelley of Thendara; Lori and Steven Wilcox of Dexter; Peter J. and Lisa Kelley of Lowville; Jodine and Mack Ford of Vine Grove, Kentucky; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is predeceased by his parents, a sister, Jeanne Marie Kelley who died in 1965, and a brother, Robert Kelley who died in 2013. David was born on June 25, 1951 in Lowville, NY, a son of the late Francis “Pete” and Norma Kentner Kelley. He attended Lowville Academy, and worked in Connecticut for two years prior to following in his father’s footsteps and enlisting in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Kelley’s naval career spanned from 1973 until 1993,where he was a Senior Chief, serving in Operation Desert Storm. During his career he specialized as a Boiler Technician and became a Boiler Inspector. After his retirement from the Navy, Sam moved to Lowville, where he worked as an Engineer/Boiler Technician at the co-gen plant in Carthage, retiring from there in 2013 after 20 years of service.

Sam was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville. He was a member of Beaver River Memorial Post 1663, Croghan American Legion, and a member of Lewis County Memorial Post 6912, VFW. He loved to follow politics, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
