Obituary for David F. Funk David F. Funk, 70, of Millcreek, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 3, 2018 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Erie on February 8, 1948 a son of the late David A. and Gertrude Steinbarth Funk. David graduated from East High School and proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
He worked at GE as a locomotive tester for 38 years and attended the Church of Mt. Zion and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. He joined DeMolay International at the age of 16 and was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge, American Legion Post 571, Keystone Gun Club where he served on the Board of Directors, Siebenbuerger Club, Presque Isle Corvette Club, and the Tri-State Mopar Club.
David loved test driving trains, collecting toy trains, cars, and many other collectables, and having bonfires during the summertime. He was an avid motorhead and also enjoyed gardening and fishing. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Anderson Funk; his stepmother with whom he was very close, Mildred Otteni Smith Funk; and his granddaughter, Kori Durkin.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine E. Durkin Funk; two sons, David R. Funk of Millcreek and Robert F. Funk of Lawrence Park; two grandchildren, Joshua Funk and Tyler Durkin; two stepsisters, Kathy Bruno and her husband, Robert, and Sandy Smith, all of Erie; one stepbrother, Charles Smith of Grant, FL; two stepsons, Michael J. Durkin and his wife, Anne, of Cape Coral, FL and Patrick Durkin and his wife, Stephanie, of Millcreek; many nieces, nephew, and cousins; and many extended family members in the Baltimore area. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd. , on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to services there on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m..
