Obituary for David John Culhane David John Culhane, beloved husband, brother, Papa, and friend to many, passed away on July 18, 2018, after a courageous battle with Leukemia. David leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 24 years, Deidre Culhane; his sisters, Lisa Hite (Bob) of Fort Collins, CO and Pamela Turner, of Tucson, AZ; step-daughter, Adrienna Martin (Darin); step-son, Kip Barker (Jackie); and four grandsons, Ashton, Tanner, Gavin, and Corban of Missouri; and his two nieces, Emily Lee (Gary) of Boulder, CO and Sarah Hite of Fort Collins, CO. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Martha Culhane.

David was born February 3,1959 in Shreveport, Louisiana to John Thomas and Martha Eloise Culhane. He grew up in Lakeside, CT, graduated from Wamogo Regional High School, and was a volunteer fireman for the town of Morris. At the young age of 19, David headed to Arlington, TX to fulfill his dream of becoming a professional fireman.

He began his 38-year career with the Arlington Fire Department in 1979. David was dedicated to serving the citizens of Arlington. He was compassionate to those who experienced tragedy and willing to take great risks to his life and the life of his crew when the citizens needed help in desperate situations.

After September 11, he was encouraged by his cousin at the New York Fire Department to take the next step in leadership by promoting to Lieutenant. His consistent leadership to ensure his crew was prepared for any emergency was highly commendable. He was also known for his tough love when it came to his standards for training requirements.

When he retired in April 2017, he left behind a legacy of service, leadership and high training standards. Outside of his work, David continued to serve the community through various charitable organizations. He was an avid cyclist and loved being outside near the water or hiking in nature.

David loved being with his family, at home and at church. His best advice was to Love God, and Love your Neighbor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) www.
