David John Niles, 79, of McGraw, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at the NYS Veterans Home, Batavia, NY. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at McGraw United Methodist Church, 20 E. Main St. McGraw. Rev.

Steven Taylor, nephew of the deceased, of Panama United Methodist Church will be officiating. Visitation will be held directly preceding the funeral services from 11:00am – 1:00pm on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at McGraw United Methodist Church. David was born in Cortland, NY on April 11, 1939 and lived most of his life in Solon, NY.

He graduated from McGraw Central High School. David faithfully served in the US Navy, enlisting in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1961. David was married to Ann Wynn Phelps on November 9, 1963; they were married 55 years.

David worked as a Telephone Lineman for Verizon for 31+ years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, raising animals and the New York Yankees. He was also actively involved in the American Legion and the United Methodist Church.

David is survived by wife, Ann; daughter, Sharleen Dunbar, and her husband, David Dunbar; son, Bryan Niles and his fiancé, Kristin Leveto; six grandsons, Zachary Dunbar, Ryan Dunbar, Owen Dunbar, Richard Karol Jr, Cameron Niles, and Bradley Niles; his sister, Betty J. Spangenburg; sister-in-law, Patricia J. Niles; sister-in-law, Wilma R. Tayor; sister-in-law, June Bradshaw and other family and friends. David is preceded in death by his parents, Robert G. Niles and Elizabeth V. Niles; his in-laws, Francis Phelps and Agnes Phelps; sister, Joan M. Metcalf; brother-in-law, Nathan Metcalf; brother, Charles G. Niles; brother, James R. Niles; sister-in-law, Toba Niles; brother-in-law, Leo Spangenburg; brother-in-law, Raymond Taylor and brother-in-law, Gary Bradshaw. Pallbearers will be Zachary Dunbar, Ryan Dunbar, Owen Dunbar, Cameron Niles, Bradley Niles and Daniel Strauf.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the McGraw United Methodist Church, 20 E. Main St., McGraw, NY 13101 or Resident Activity Fund NYS Veterans Home Batavia, 220 Richmond Ave. , Batavia, NY 14020. The family of David John Niles wishes to thank the NYS Veteran’s Home Batavia, the McGraw United Methodist Church and the American Legion.
