David Guy Sadaro, age 73, passed away January 31, 2019 at his home in Mystic , Iowa. He was born November 2, 1945 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Guy and Kathleen (Gerdon) Sadaro. After graduating from Centerville High School at age 17, David was accepted to Drake University.
He worked at HyVee and Owl Drug during the summer months to pay for living expenses. While at Drake University, David was a member of the American Pharmaceutical Association and the oldest professional pharmacy fraternity in the nation, Kappa Psi. David earned a degree in Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 1968.
David was united in marriage to Patricia L Elarton in 1968. They later welcomed a son, Scott, in 1969 and a daughter, Sally, in 1974. In 1998, David married Mary Knott with whom he enjoyed travelling and introduced to the great game of golf.
Following internships and work experience in Chicago, IL and Owl Drug in Centerville, IA, David moved to Bloomfield, IA in 1970 where he was employed by and ultimately became an owner of the Gilfillian Clinic Pharmacy. David was a member of Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic Church and a founder of the original “Sunday Brunch Bunch”. Throughout his life, David enjoyed his career as a Pharmacist.
This career fulfillment was a result of the professional trust, commitment to serve and friendships built while owning and working at the Gilfillan Clinic Pharmacy (True Care Pharmacy), Davis County Hospital, Fenton Medical Office and a hometown pharmacy in Seymour IA. Unbeknownst to most, David told many stories of longstanding customers, fellow co-workers and those in the community who surrounded him, all cherished memories. While raising a family and growing a business, David took time to volunteer at the Bloomfield Country Club with the men’s golf association board of directors and actively participated in fundraising for the Country Club.
Giving time to others, David coached girls Little League Softball, not only while his daughter played, but for years after. He provided uniforms for teams and helped grow the girl’s league by leading fundraising efforts within the community. David enjoyed playing golf with family and friends at the Bloomfield and Centerville Country Clubs, and hunting during the fall.
All other hobbies took second to collecting and restoring Corvettes and early 70’s muscle cars. His humor, kindness and human spirit will be greatly missed. David is survived by former wife Patricia Albright and their son Scott (Kristy) Sadaro of Raymore, MO, and daughter Sally (Josh) Baumgardner of Seattle, WA; grandchildren Sophia Sadaro and Simone Baumgardner.
His aunt Florence Sadaro of Schaumberg, IL; his sister Diane (Frank) Belloma of Centerville, IA and nephew Jeff (Shelly) Belloma of Pella, IA. Former wife Mary Sadaro and her children Mandee Wells of Eddyville, IA, Michael (Adrienne) Knott of Minneapolis, MN, Tony (Johanna) Knott of Centerville, IA; and grandchildren Morgan, Mason, Wriglee and Millie Wells, Anthony, Joaquin and Sofia Knott. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, March 9, 2019 in Centerville, IA at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Bill Hubmann officiating. Entombment will follow at a later date at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville, IA. Visitation will be Friday, March 8, 2019 at Thomas Funeral Home with family present from 5-7:00 pm at Thomas Funeral Home – 501 North 18th Street Centerville, IA.
