Obituary of David Harris David Glenn Harris, 74 of Town Bluff, Texas, passed away peacefully in his home on June 12, 2018 after a courageous two-year battle with brain cancer. He was born on December 12, 1943 in Port Arthur, Texas to the late Clyde M. Harris and Eloise Dixon Harris. David used his many talents to work in a variety of fields ranging from butcher to refinery worker (both locally and abroad) to co-owner of a homebuilding company with his two brothers-in law, Charlie Seaman and Perry Seaman.

In 1983 he and Linda established Harris Country Market in Town Bluff, which quickly became a hub of their small community. On any given morning, you would be greeted by the regular group of coffee drinkers who convened there to solve the problems of the world, or at least share a great fishing story or two. David’s years behind the counter earned him the respect of his customers and friendships too numerous to count.

An avid outdoorsman, David developed many hobbies which fed his adventurous spirit. He enjoyed time on the water by sailing his Hobie Cat sailboat and bass fishing on Lakes Steinhagen and Sam Rayburn. Airplanes and flying held a particular fascination for David, and in the 1970’s he often piloted planes carrying parachute jumpers.

He once lost an engine mid-flight, yet he managed to land the plane in a rice field where all on board walked away without injury. In his later years, David intersected two of his interests by taking beautiful underwater photographs of his scuba diving adventures. Left behind to cherish his memory are David’s loving wife of 50 years, Linda Seaman Harris; sons Darel Harris of Jasper, and Ronald Harris and wife Jamie of Beaumont; brother, Steve Harris and wife Sally of Nederland; sister, Charlotte Chadick and husband Steve of Woodville; grandchildren, Blake Harris of Jasper, Leslie Harris Tolbert and husband Shane of Jasper, Mason Harris and Shelby Harris of Beaumont; and great-grandchildren Colton Harris, Hayden Harris, Taylor Harris, Crystal Adams, and Colby Adams.

Funeral service will be held Friday, June 15, 2018, at 11 am at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 14, 2018, from 5 pm until 7 pm at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Blake Harris, Mason Harris, Adam Walton, Michael Aguilar, Loye Wilson, Chas Wilson, Daniel Summerlin, Shane Tolbert and Chas Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dickie Cloutman and Paul James. The family wishes to thank everyone who helped ease their burden through calls, visits, meals, and prayer.

A very special thanks goes to David’s caregiver “angels “who gave so selflessly of their time and talents. Those wishing to offer remembrances in lieu of flowers are invited to donate to MD Anderson Cancer Center, P. O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas, 77210 (gifts. mdanderson.org) or their charity of choice.

Services are held under the direction of Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.
