Obituary for Delna L. Wempen Delna Lisetta Wempen, 82, of Minden, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 as the result of a motor vehicle accident in Franklin County. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Christopher Hazzard officiating.

Interment will be held at the Upland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Craig Funeral Home in Minden. Delna was born on April 16, 1935 in Minden, NE, the daughter of John J. and Lisetta (Nitzel) Lammers.

She lived first three and a half years a half mile west of Upland, NE until moving Southeast of Minden where she lived at her current place since she was eight years old. She rode one of the first school busses that came out of Minden. She was baptized by Rev.

Heintz at the Lutheran church in Upland and was confirmed at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden by the Rev. M. Schabacker. After graduation from Minden High School in 1953, she worked for Warp Publishing for seven years, making “Warps’ Review” workbooks for 5th-8th grades.

Delna played the accordion while her mother played the piano for the Schnoor Orchestra every-other Saturday night for 14 years at dances held in Kearney. She helped start the Miller Dance Hall in Miller, NE where they played for many years. Delna played accordion at KRVN radio and NTV when they first went on the air.

It was at the dances she played at, that she met her husband, Henry W. Wempen, Jr. and they were married on October 18, 1959 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden by Rev. Karl Baumgart. The couple lived on the family farm with her parents, helping her father with the farm, who shortly after their marriage suffered a heart attack.

Delna had been her Dad’s boy and enjoyed every aspect of farming and ranching. She had a good eye for farm animals and especially loved horses. She enjoyed custom trucking in Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota and Colorado, and was very proud to actively hold a Class A CDL at the age of 82.

She taught Sunday school for over 18 years and enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and sewing. Delna and her family also had their own family band which played for many different occasions. She is survived by her four children, sons, John Jay of Minden, Mark and wife Kristen Wempen of Pleasanton, Rex and wife April Wempen of Minden; daughter, LaFona Wempen and special friend Robert Lammers of Overton; seven grandchildren, Justin Dallmann of Smith Center, KS, Mitchell Dallmann of Upland, Sadie Dallmann and special friend Heath Shannon of Upland, Katie Dallmann and special friend Dillon McIntosh of Amherst, Jacob, Melody and Ashley Wempen of Minden; one great-granddaughter, Lily Dallmann; sisters-in-law, Beverly Wempen of Overton and Katheryn Wempen of Overton as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry W. Wempen, Jr. and her parents, John and Lisetta “Sadie”, as well as an infant brother at birth. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Craig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
