Dennis I. Peterson, 71, of Steubenville, Ohio passed Sunday, February 10, 2019. He was born on November 9, 1947 in Steubenville a son of the late Calvin & Emma Jarvis Peterson, Sr He was a member of Wintersville U.M. Church and retired from Weirton Steel Co. after 32 years of service as a surveyor.

Dennis graduated from Wintersville High School in 1966 and was recruited to play basketball at WVU, where he played for two years and then transferred to Bethany College where he played for another two years. Dennis coached men’s basketball at Wintersville High School 1985-1993; Weirton Madonna 1995-2008 and Franciscan University of Steubenville 2015-2016. He was part of the 2011 Weirton Madonna basketball state championship team and also a part of numerous OVAC championships at Weirton Madonna.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and son Gary “Nick” Peterson in 1991. Dennis is survived by his wife Noreen Lemal Peterson; son Matt (Lori) Peterson of Moon Township, PA; two grandchildren Piper & Pheona Peterson; and brother Calvin (Sally) Peterson of Columbus, Ohio. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Thursday 3-7 p.m., where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with Rev.

Dr. Clint Quillen officiating. Burial at Fort Steuben.
