Diana Lee Hullinger, 81 years old, passed away at 5:00 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2019, at St. Paul’s Retirement Community, South Bend. Diana was born on May 4, 1937 in South Bend to the late Peter J. and Ruby E. (Beehler) Nemeth. She has remained a lifelong resident of North Liberty and South Bend, wintering in Florida for many years.

On December 3, 1960 in South Bend, Diana and James Turpie Hullinger were united in marriage. Jim preceded his wife in death on June 30, 2007. Diana retired in 1995 as the Vice-President of Operations for the Sisters of the Holy Cross where she was employed for 35 years.

She served on the Board of Directors of the Notre Dame Credit Union for several years, as well as, the Board of Directors of Holy Cross College. She also served as a former member of the Mayor’s Traffic Safety Commission and was the first woman to chair that organization. She was the co-chair to oversee the building of the original Safetyville in Rum Village Park and was awarded the key to the City of South Bend for those accomplishments.

Diana was a member of the Women’s Highway Traffic Safety Commission for the State of Indiana. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Diana is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Lynn and Wanda Nemeth of South Bend; and her nephew, Neil Nemeth of Munster, IN.

She is also survived by many friends who loved her and will miss her dearly. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend where friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. A private entombment will follow the services at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Diana L. Hullinger may be donated to River Bend Cancer Services, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd.
