Mrs. Dolores P. “Dee” (Purvin) McDonald, 85, a resident of Parrish Street, Wilkes-Barre, passed into eternal life Tuesday evening in the Celtic Health and Hospice inpatient unit at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre following an illness. Born July 19, 1933 in Wilkes-Barre, she was one of five children to the late Edward and Alberta (Taylor) Purvin and was educated in the city schools. Prior to raising her family, Mrs. McDonald was employed as a seamstress for the M.B. Bedding Company, South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.
After her children were grown, she did not sit idle. Dee later worked as a store clerk for Harry’s Market on Hazle Street in Wilkes-Barre. She also worked as a private duty caregiver for several area senior citizens and their families.
Dee, as she was known to those who knew and loved her, is remembered as being a wonderful, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her adorning family. She took pride in her housework, and was an exceptional baker whose skills will be missed. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Harold E. McDonald on December 22, 1993.
At the time of his passing, the couple shared thirty-two years of married life together. Also preceding her were a daughter, Ms. Karen Carr on December 12, 2017; Son-in-law, Mr. Michael J. Drozdowski III on November 7, 2016 and by a brother, Mr. Edward Purvin Jr. Left to mourn her passing and cherish her memory are her children, Mr. Kevin H. McDonald, at home; Mrs. Dolores R. Drozdowski of Wilkes-Barre; Grandchildren including Michael Drozdowski IV and his fiance Lorie Lopez; Alison Byra and her husband Carl; Sean Carr, Kenneth Carr, Aiden H. McDonald and Brandy McDonald. Great-Grandchildren; Carlee Rose Byra, Michael A. Drozdowski V, Caleigh Carr and Gavin Carr; Brother, Gerald Purvin of Frederick, MD; Sisters, Raghline Elmy and her husband Henry of Sugar Notch; Janice Klimchak and her husband John of Locust Grove, VA; Several nieces, nephews, neighbors and dear friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. McDonald will be conducted on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. from the Wilkes-Barre Heights location of the John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 281 East Northampton Street. Interment with prayers of committal will follow in Albert Cemetery, Mountain Top. Relatives and friends may join Mrs. McDonald’s family for visitation and remembrances Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.
