Dolores Perez August 29, 1942 – January 01, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Maria Dolores Perez, 76, passed away to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at Weslaco Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Dolores was born August 29, 1942 to Pablo & Refugia Valdez in Mercedes, TX. She attended Mercedes High School where she graduated in 1961.
In 1962 she attended a nine-month training to become a certified cosmetologist and an additional six months training to become a cosmetology instructor where she then worked at Magic Valley Beauty College in San Juan, Texas. On November 3, 1966 she married her sweetheart, Rolando Perez, and decided to devote her time to care for her three loving children. Dolores had an inherent love for music-particularly for the music of Elvis Presley, Rick Nelson, Patsy Cline, and Loretta Lynn.
As she got older, her love transitioned to the sweet tune of country music, especially Alan Jackson, and the smooth rhythm of line dancing. She shared her love and gift for music through her love of Christ as she played guitar in the choir at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church and devoted her time to teach CCE to elementary students for years. She spent many moments between the pages and folds of books, magazines, newspapers and the famous columnists Ann Landers and Dear Abbey for she was a voracious reader.
She believed in the power of words and storytelling and imparted this passion to her children. Her love for novellas was contagious. She even managed to get her husband and sisters into her favorite series.
The savory aroma of panesitos, cabbage au gratin casserole, menudo, and homemade flour tortillas will forever incite us to reminisce on her cooking talent. She was a warm, compassionate, vibrant soul, and all that she did, she did for others. Her selfless acts were apparent each day, as she always sought to care for the needs of others, always before her own.
Her smile brightened up the lives of all those who were blessed to have seen it. Her perpetual acts of kindness will forever remain embedded within our hearts and we will continue to see and remember her in all things beautiful. Dolores is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rolando Perez; one daughter, Lisa Marie Perez, and one brother, Victor Valdez.
She is survived by one son, Rolando Perez, Jr. (Cheryl) of Leander, TX; one daughter, Belinda Saenz (Erasmo) of Weslaco, TX; 1 brother, Juan Valdez of Mercedes, TX; and three sisters, Jesusa Villarreal of Mercedes, TX, Carmen Zavala of Houston, TX, and Hilaria Hinojosa of Laguna Vista, TX. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2019, with a 7:00 p.m. rosary at Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco – Chapel of The Heavens.
