Obituary for Donald A. Shafer Donald passed away peacefully on Friday, April 20, 2018 at his home with his family by his side. Donald was born on October 1, 1939 in Kalamazoo, MI a son of Joseph and Margaret Shafer and had been a lifelong area resident. He graduated from St. Augustine in 1957.

Don served in the US Army and retired from the US Post Office after 42 years of service. He was a parishioner of St. Augustine Cathedral, a NALC member and was on the Hackett Committee of Hall of Fame. Don was active in many years of coaching at St. Augustine, Hackett and Westwood Little League.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dan. Don is survived by his wife Frances; four children and their spouses, Joseph & Penni Shafer, Donald & Marian Shafer, John & Meghan Shafer and Amanda & Josh Diamond; 13 grandchildren, Kelly, Bryce, Brian, Ben, Maggie, Bella, Brayden, Kailem, Kellen, Austin, Jacob, Evan, and Isabell; 2 great-grandchildren, Natalie and Parker; 3 sisters-in-law, Cozette (Chuck) Miller, Vicki (Bill) Taplin-Johnson and Sue (Lonnie) Taylor; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to West Michigan Cancer Center.
